Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
