The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna described Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important stage of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I approach this job like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is inclined to finish the ongoing World Cup campaign, a position that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are currently third in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
