Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just half a year after leading derogatory chants aimed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting insulting songs about Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Past History Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
