Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
