Suspected Stalker Inquired: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly left her a recorded message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most widely reported missing child cases and continues to be unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate phone message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a small chance that I'm her? What happens next? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the message continued.
The panel was advised that by means of emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who gathered the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will continue and I will prove my claim."
The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in that area in December 2024.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months before the appearance to that location, that area, in last December.
The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in that autumn, planning attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a communication which expressed: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
