The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit series coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
