The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Mourners gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to help others.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and cease granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
