Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
